Best practices and tips for a successful walk with your dog

Our dog trainer "Tdog" answered all our questions about walks.

Here is his answer to our first question:

Choose the Right Location:

- Opt for parks, trails, or beaches where your dog can explore new environments. Varied locations stimulate your dog's senses and make the walk more interesting.

 Allow Time to Explore:

- Give your dog time to sniff, explore, and interact with their surroundings. Dogs learn a lot through their sense of smell, and this exploration is essential for their mental stimulation.

 Vary the Routes:

- Change your walking routes regularly to avoid monotony. This allows your dog to discover new places and keep their interest piqued.

 Natural Stimulation:

- Let the dog have fun on their own with the environment; simplicity is sometimes the best thing for a dog, who will find things to enjoy naturally.

 Use Commands:

- Take advantage of the walk to practice basic commands like "sit," "stay," or "come." This reinforces your dog's training while making the walk more interactive.

 Incorporate Obstacles:

- If possible, choose routes with natural obstacles (tree trunks, small hills) so your dog can climb, jump, and burn off physical energy.

 Consider the Weather:

- Adapt the duration and intensity of the walk according to weather conditions. In hot weather, prioritize cooler hours.

 Hydration:

- Don't forget to bring water for your dog, especially during long walks. Good hydration is essential for their health and well-being.

Personally, I always bring them near a water source like here!

 Observe Your Dog's Behavior:

- Be attentive to signs of fatigue or stress in your dog. Every dog has their own limits, and it is important to respect their pace.

By following Tdog's advice, you can turn every walk into an enriching and fun experience for your dog, while promoting their physical and mental health.
